Following our earlier DNV approval of CoreIntegrity as a Tension Monitoring System, we are pleased to announce that our Line Failure Detection module has now received DNV approval for the Goliat FPSO, marking a significant milestone for the CoreIntegrity Moorings Solution.
About the Solution
The Line Failure Detection System monitors the integrity of the Goliat FPSO's mooring system, organized into three clusters, and is capable of detecting and confirming a line failure within a maximum of 24 hours. The detection methodology combines two complementary data sources: inclinometers installed on each mooring line, and position-based platform position monitoring.
Inclinometer readings provide an instantaneous failure detection: a loss of signal indicates a failure above the sensor, while an angle approaching vertical suggests a failure below it. Because sensor faults or transmission issues can occur, a confirmation step is built into the methodology using the asset’s position. By analyzing the vessel’s movement in relation to environmental factors, such as wind, current and waves, the system can reliably identify position changes consistent with a mooring line failure.
Two Years of Back-Testing
The position-based monitoring methodology has been rigorously validated through the two years of back-testing using recorded operational data. Across a wide range of environmental and operating conditions, the system demonstrated consistent performance with zero false positives. Additional simulated failure scenarios across all mooring lines further confirmed the robustness of the position-based detection approach.
