Balticconnector pipeline repair successfully delivered

Baltic Sea, May, 2024

CoreMarine is celebrating a successful collaboration with industry partners to repair the Balticconnector, a critical gas pipeline between Finland and Estonia.

The pipeline was shut down in early October 2023 following damage, with an anchor and deep drag marks found metres from the rupture point.

The 152 km gas pipeline is bidirectional and has a transmission capacity of 7.2 million cubic meters of gas per day, making a speedy fix imperative. With an accelerated late-April 2024 target for the pipeline to resume operating, completing the offshore repair work took incredible collaboration between an extraordinary project team.

The offshore pipeline repair project was led by Norwegian energy major Equinor, on behalf of operators Gasgrid Finland and Estonian electricity transmission grid operator Elering. CoreMarine joined the project as a subcontractor to Ocean Installer, and we were thrilled to help engineer and mobilise a project of major European significance in just six weeks.

We were part of the mobilisation of the Pipeline Repair Service (PRS) spread onto the North Sea Giant, followed by the offshore operations to carry out the pipeline cut-out and spool piece installation works.

“It was an incredibly demanding project, but as always, our CoreMariners delivered their part with perfect accuracy.”
- Eamonn O’Leary, Senior Ocean Engineer and CoreMarine’s Balticconnector project lead.

The end result was a safe and efficient project with excellent team spirit and onboard camaraderie from a suite of contractors and subcontractors.

We’d like to thank Ocean Installer for the opportunity to be part of the project, and congratulate Equinor and all contractors involved on an excellent outcome!
